That said, if you’ve been sick, you may want to wash your sheets at a higher temp. Research from the American Society for Microbiology finds that\u00a0washing sheets in 140\u00b0F water for 10 to 13 minutes<\/a> is ideal for destroying bacteria. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Skip the bleach\u2014this can actually turn white sheets yellow and destroy certain fabrics\u2014and reach for a mild detergent instead. Drying sheets on a high heat setting can cause them to wrinkle or shrink, so tumble dry on low. (This is the best way to whiten sheets<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
