Don\u2019t overdo it<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There is<\/em> such a thing as too many throw pillows on a bed. Peltier says she likes to walk a fine line between \u201cluxurious and simple,\u201d so she prefers to strike a balance: \u201cNot too many pillows that there isn’t any bed space left, but just enough that it makes you want to crawl right in.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Start by layering sleeping pillows<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To make your bed look plush and sumptuous, and to create a perfect backdrop for your throw pillows, it\u2019s important to layer your pillows for sleeping as well. Peltier is partial to placing four sleeping pillows<\/a> on a bed, which are stacked two on top of one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stick to the \u201crule of three\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Oftentimes, in the design world, pros like to adhere to something called \u201cthe rule of three.\u201d This means that decorative objects tend to look better in groups of three or an odd number that doesn\u2019t look too<\/em> perfect. Peltier likes to place \u201cthree simple throw pillows\u201d in front of her stacked sleeping pillows and leans them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for creating a cohesive look, Peltier says two of the three pillows can match, preferably in a 22″ x 22″ size, and the third pillow should be a smaller, rectangular pillow in a coordinating fabric. Try to stay within the same color family for the patterns as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to arrange pillows on a king-size bed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Many people also wonder how to arrange pillows on a\u00a0king bed<\/a>\u00a0specifically since this\u00a0mattress size<\/a>\u00a0can prove to be overwhelming. Too many pillows? Too few pillows? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf the pillows are too small or too few, the bed will look empty,” says Peltier. “But if you don\u2019t go large with your pillows, then you need lots of them, which can look fussy, dated, or messy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But a king-size bed is actually quite versatile when it comes to throw pillows. Since it\u2019s such a large bed, it can handle a few various arrangements, explains Peltier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She prefers using three Euro shams<\/a> (or square pillows used decoratively on beds) along with a lumbar pillow that\u2019s placed in front. \u201cThis keeps the bed, and the amount of pillows that need to be removed, at a minimum but still looks polished and full,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
