Pimple patches (like those from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Pack-COSRX-Pimple-Master-Patch\/dp\/B01N8XCGIO\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CosRx<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Mighty-Patch-Hydrocolloid-Absorbing-count\/dp\/B074PVTPBW\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hero<\/a>) can also help protect blemishes and treat them with active ingredients like salicylic acid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But if you look at the instructions on most sheet masks, you\u2019ll notice there\u2019s a set time to use them\u2014usually about 20 minutes. In many cases, leaving them on longer can actually\u00a0<em>dehydrate<\/em> the skin by wicking moisture out of it, says Yadav. All in all, these masks shouldn\u2019t be left on the skin overnight because they can irritate the skin, block pores, and lead to breakouts.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Experts also warn against&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saatva.com\/blog\/mouth-taping-for-sleep\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mouth taping<\/a>&nbsp;and chin straps. There\u2019s no scientific evidence that mouth taping could reduce&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saatva.com\/blog\/sleep-apnea-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sleep apnea<\/a>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saatva.com\/blog\/how-to-deal-with-snoring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">snoring<\/a>, and chin straps are also a no-go for contouring\u2014they only tighten skin for a brief period.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How the morning shed trend impacts sleep<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond the lack of effectiveness, there\u2019s the obvious toll of sleeping with a face full of press-ons, a chin strap tight against your jaw, and mouth tape that blocks your ability to breathe easily: You\u2019re going to disrupt your sleep.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saatva.com\/blog\/sleep-hygiene\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sleep hygiene<\/a>, Sari Chait, PhD, clinical psychologist and founder of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sarichaitphd.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Behavioral Health and Wellness Center<\/a>&nbsp;in Newton, Mass., likens the morning shed to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saatva.com\/blog\/tv-in-bedroom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sleeping with a TV in your room<\/a>\u2014it might be fine for some people, but it could be a big problem for others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How the morning shed trend impacts mental health<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The morning shed could also be bad for your mental health. \u201cWhat\u2019s particularly relevant here is that poor sleep can lead to worsening mood, higher&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saatva.com\/blog\/sleeping-with-anxiety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">anxiety<\/a>, and poorer concentration among other things,\u201d says Chait.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s more: There\u2019s an emphasis on physical beauty, on emerging out of your cocoon more beautiful than you were before\u2014and that can be harmful too.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI worry that some people may find engaging in this trend negatively affects their self-esteem,\u201d says Chait. After all, as we\u2019ve discussed before, the majority of the beauty techniques used for the morning shed just don\u2019t work.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The bottom line on the morning shed trend&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The morning shed takes a lot of time, and you might wake up grumpier than you would without it.
