Buying a new mattress is a big deal—especially if you have sleep-disrupting back pain. But how, exactly, can you determine whether a mattress will provide adequate comfort and support for your back while you sleep?
Beyond looking for specific mattress features like added lumbar support in the center third of the mattress, keep your eye out for an endorsement from the American Chiropractic Association (ACA).
The ACA is the largest professional chiropractic organization in the US, and its members are some of the most accomplished chiropractors in the industry.
As part of its ACA Endorsement Program, the organization rigorously tests and reviews chiropractic-related products, including mattresses and pillows, to help you find products that support healthy spinal alignment while you sleep.
We’re proud to share that Saatva mattresses are endorsed by the ACA. This list includes the

What is the ACA Endorsement Program?
The ACA Endorsement Program is designed to help you identify the high quality of a product or service, so you have all the information you need to make an informed shopping decision.
An ACA endorsement is given to products of the highest quality after a thorough review, analysis, testing, and evaluation by the ACA’s Business Development Advisory Board (which consists of chiropractic doctors with specific and related expertise) and final approval from the group’s Board of Governors.
The organization tests a range of chiropractic-related products, including mattresses, pillows, electronic pain relief stimulators, backpacks, backrests, office chairs, and even car seats as part of this program.
It’s important to note that these endorsements are made solely to inform you of the quality of a product. An endorsement doesn’t mean a product is intended to cure or remedy any disease or physical condition.
What does the ACA’s mattress endorsement process look like?
When a mattress is presented for a possible endorsement, the ACA works with chiropractors with specific and related knowledge to conduct a thorough evaluation and review of that mattress.
The doctors use the mattress for a set amount of time (such as three months), fill out a questionnaire to provide feedback, and then provide a recommendation if it meets the standard for an ACA endorsement. These results are then reviewed and approved by the ACA’s Board of Governors.
Mattresses are reviewed regularly to make sure they continue to meet the ACA’s high standards for endorsement.
Why should you choose a mattress endorsed by the ACA?
The ACA is the largest professional chiropractic organization in the country, with over 10,000 members who specialize in treating patients with issues like back pain and neck pain. In short, they’re a respected third party—and they know their stuff when it comes to back health.
The organization’s members rigorously test mattresses before issuing an endorsement. If a mattress has been vetted and endorsed by the ACA, then you can have confidence that it meets the highest standards for comfort and support.
Why did the ACA endorse Saatva mattresses?
Our mattresses, including our bestselling
America’s best-selling online luxury innerspring
, underwent a rigorous and thorough three-month testing process before being reviewed and approved for an ACA endorsement.
“We were impressed that the Saatva mattress was firm but also had a springy quality to it and was soft,” says chiropractor Scott Bautch, of ACA’s Council on Occupational Health and a member of the mattress review team. “We found this combination to yield a high level of comfort. We also gave high marks to the quality of the materials and manufacturing, which produce a durable mattress that should last for many years.”
Some of the key features of the Saatva Classic include:
- 3″ Euro pillow top with Lumbar Zone® Quilting to give you more support in the center third of the mattress

- Lumbar Zone® Active Spinal Wire to help keep your spine in healthy alignment
- Individually wrapped that are stronger and firmer in the center third of the mattress, where most of your body weight is concentrated
- High-density foam rails for stable edge support
- Dual-coil construction for maximum durability and better airflow
The Saatva Classic also has an organic cotton cover treated with our exclusive Guardin™ botanical antimicrobial treatment to inhibit the growth of bacteria, mold, and mildew. We also use a natural, plant-based thistle pulp flame barrier instead of fiberglass or toxic chemicals.
