Frequently asked questions

  • Sateen cotton is woven with long-staple cotton yarn using a one-yarn-over, three-yarn-under weave structure. This technique creates a silky-soft feel known for its luster and drape.

  • Percale cotton has a crisp feel with a luxe matte finish while sateen cotton has a silky-soft feel with a subtle luster.

  • Percale sheets are made with cotton fibers and woven into a crisp percale weave. Linen sheets are woven from flax fiber and have a uniquely textured finish. Both are naturally hypoallergenic, antimicrobial, and very breathable.

  • Absolutely! Natural fibers are typically more breathable than synthetic fibers like polyester.

The 100% natural long staple cotton we use for our sheets are 200 thread count for the percale and 300 thread count for the sateen, making it the perfect balance of soft and breathable.

  • Linen sheets are highly breathable and can absorb as much as 20% of its weight in moisture before feeling wet. This makes linen a great year-round option for those who sleep hot or sweat through the night. Because of their lighter, airy feel, linen sheets are great for the summer months, but they can also help regulate your body temperature in colder months.

  • Flannel is a thicker woven textile that is designed to retain warmth on colder nights ever better than high thread-count cotton. Our flannel cotton has a brushed finish that gives it a rich, velvety texture that’s perfect for cozying up in colder weather.

  • The terms “comforter” and “duvet” (also known as “duvet insert”) are sometimes used interchangeably. Traditionally, a comforter is meant to be used on its own and doesn’t require a cover. It can either have a decorative print or a solid color.

In contrast, a duvet (AKA duvet insert) is designed to be used inside a duvet cover which you can wash and switch out regularly. Duvets are also typically fluffier than traditional comforters and quilts because they are filled with down alternative or some other lightweight fill.

Our Saatva All-Year Comforter is actually a hybrid of both. Like a comforter, it can be used on its own without a duvet because it’s super soft and machine washable. Unlike a traditional comforter, it has the cloud-like softness and lightweight breathability of a duvet.

We recommend using the All-Year Comforter as a duvet insert inside our duvet covers to give you more versatility and ease when laundry day comes around.

  • The main difference is in their construction. A blanket is a single layer that’s either woven, crocheted, or knitted. Blankets vary in thickness and can be used alone or as a layer on top of a top sheet or with a comforter for added warmth.

A quilt is constructed with three layers. It has an outer shell consisting of a top and bottom layer, plus a batting or fill made of either wool, down, cotton, polyester, rayon or a combination of those materials. Quilts also serve the same purpose of keeping you warm. It can be used alone or layered with other bedding.

  • Saatva pillows are available in Queen and King sizes.

Below are the dimensions of our pillows:

    Saatva Latex Pillows
    Queen 28" x 18"
    King 34" x 18"

Graphite Memory Foam Pillows, Cloud Memory Foam Pillows & Down Alternative Pillows
    Queen 28" x 16"
    King 34" x 16"

Please note that our pillows are slightly larger than standard queen and king sizes. We recommend using our Saatva pillowcases with your Saatva pillow.

  • A mattress pad, sometimes called a mattress cover, is a thin piece of quilted material that fits over the surface of your mattress, much like a fitted sheet. It offers an extra layer of light cushioning and much-needed protection against light stains and general wear and tear.

  • You should consider protecting your mattress with a mattress protector if you:

    • are concerned about preventing bed bugs, mold, mildew & other contaminants
    • have pets or children that are likely to cause spills on the mattress
    • live in a humid region and want to protect your mattress from excess humidity
  • Mattress toppers are more substantial than mattress pads and protectors, typically around 1" to 4" in thickness. Rather than protect your mattress, they're designed purely to add an extra layer of comfort and support to new or older mattresses.

A mattress pad is a thin quilted layer designed to protect your mattress from light stains and general wear & tear.

Mattress protectors are thinner like fitted sheets. They're primarily used to protect your mattress from spills and humidity, making them a great choice for kids, homes with pets, and humid climates. They're also great at keeping contaminants like mold, bacteria, and bed bugs out of your mattress.

  • Just like mattresses, there are different types of toppers for different sleep preferences and needs.

    • Latex mattress toppers are often recommended by orthopedists and chiropractors to relieve neck, back, and shoulder pain. They offer resilient yet responsive support and limit motion transfer. They're also more durable and breathable than memory foam toppers.
    • Memory foam mattress toppers are particularly great for back and side sleepers because they conform and contour to your curves and provide pressure-point relief. Like latex toppers, they also limit motion transfer.
    • Cooling mattress toppers, like our Graphite Memory Foam option, are great for those who tend to sleep hot because they draw heat away from the body.
  • When most people look to upgrade their sleep quality, one of the first things they ask is “What is the most comfortable bedding?”. Comfort can be highly subjective, but there are lots of bedding options to suit every type of sleeper.

Sheet sets come in a variety of fabrics for all budgets and comfort preferences. If you suffer from allergies, hypoallergenic sheets like our organic cotton percale sheet set or linen sheet set are great options.

If you tend to sleep hot, natural fabrics like 100% cotton or linen are far more breathable than synthetic fabrics. They’re also better at wicking away moisture if you tend to sweat throughout the night.

Another thing to note is the thread count of sheets. According to the National Sleep Foundation, the sweet spot for thread count in cotton sheets is between 200 and 400. If you tend to sleep hot, a higher thread count may not be a great choice as it tends to trap body heat. Sticking to that sweet spot for thread count is a good way to ensure your cotton sheets won't feel too warm.
